NaBloPoWhat? OH, right. That thing I said I was going to do back in February and totally forgot about. Oops!
I'm getting a late start, but here's a list for your reading pleasure, entitled "Last Saturday":
- Farking snow
- Farking snow!!
- Danielle!
- Portland
- Food
- More food
Even more food- OMG stuffed
- Zzzzzzzzzzz
That pretty much sums it up! Alas, the Etsy Meet-up was canceled due to the weather (see the part about "farking snow"), but Danielle and I braved the storm and went to Portland anyway.
On Friday I went thrift shopping with Susan, and found lots of goodies:
- Brother Charger 651 sewing machine in robin's egg blue, $5
- 2 funky serving platters with a neat mod design, $11
- Yet another clock to add to my growing collection, $3
I was especially pleased with the sewing machine, as I've been looking for one to use as a photo prop for a long time (and I couldn't argue with that price!). This one is exactly what I wanted. It doesn't seem to work, though, so I may have it serviced at some point in the future. It would be nice to have a functional sewing machine that I could practice with!

Well, it's a long story, involving a social life (no, really--this is not a work of fiction!), a pesky rhinovirus, two Etsy shops, and a few long days at work. I've been up to my ears in friends, snot, appointments, and my job(s). I'm pretty sure I have a husband running loose around here somewhere, too... he's probably buried under the pile of dirty dishes in the sink.
Add a dash of laziness, and you have a recipe for a thoroughly neglected blog.
But never fear, because I've been inspired! Invigorated, even! Word around Blogland is that NaBloPoMo is being resurrected--this time, you post every day in a given month (not just November). Each month has a theme, and March's theme is "lists." It just so happens that I am a list-making fiend, so beginning March 1st, I am going to clog your RSS readers with so much mindless drivel, you'll be begging me to take a vacation. To Pluto.
Also, apparently it's Valentine's Day, or something? What? Huh? I admit, I completely forgot until late this morning, when I was already buried under piles of work. Oops!
T & I agreed to postpone our romantic celebrations until this weekend, at which point we'll go shopping for new floors. Home ownership is sexy. You want more hardwood, baby? How about some vinyl tiles? Ooh yeah, let's negotiate a three-way with the contractor. I like it like that.
Oook, I've obviously been away from the blog for far too long... I need to work on letting the crazy out in little bursts.

That's right, folks. Don't question the wisdom of the almighty Doughboy. NaBloPoMo: I r teh win!
It's a Friday night, and how am I celebrating my blogging victory? Going out for dinner? A movie? Crashing a party? Hitting the bar?
E, none of the above. In typical hermit-blogger fashion, I'm taking pictures of my Christmas decorations, catching up on the DVR, and letting the cat sleep on me again. I also ordered take-out, just to shake things up a little. I might get really crazy and drink half a Mike's and fall asleep by 9. Hey, the night is still young!

Sometimes I think I exist solely for the purpose of being a walking human cat bed. Hmm... I wonder why that is? ...
I have "Both Hands" stuck in my head... the song, not my hands. That would be ew.
I'm putting up Christmas lights and decorations this week! Which is fun! Except the suction cups I use to fix the lights to the windows never work! And I spend half my life watching them fall down! Then I put them back up! Repeat fifty-thousand times! I'm like a well-trained hamster! It's so great, this decorating thing! Hence the over-use of exclamation points! !!!!
Feh. I think it's time for bed.

I'm a dork. I was checking out my Dashboard at ThisNext, and saw my rank was at 0.9%. I thought, "Geez, my recommendations must suck! 0.9% is a really low number!" That's until I realized that my rank was actually the top 0.9%. Smaller numbers are better when you're in the top of it, you dolt.
I'm having a grand time recommending new products there lately, most of which are from fellow Etsy sellers. I think the indie/handmade community is slightly under-represented amidst the upscale designer fashions, housewares and electronics, so I aim to keep the majority of my recommendations indie-related. I'm also tagging my recommendations with "iGift" in hopes of being the lucky winner of an iPhone. That would make a really sweet early Christmas present, no?
Speaking of free goodies, there are 2 more free 5x7's ready to go out with the next two orders from my shops - more details here!
It's not listed on the official Prizes page yet, but one lucky participant in NaBloPoMo will get a free 8x10 or 8x12 print of their choice from my shop, provided they play nice and update their blog every day. If that's not motivation to bare your soul to the Internets for thirty grueling days in a row, I don't know what is!

I do so much better with lists...
- I don't think I will ever get enough of new kitten smell. Mmmmm.
- My therapist gave me my first exercise: for the next week, I am to enjoy food, no matter what I eat, without guilt. I assured her that I'm entirely up to the challenge, and I think I'm going to like her.
- I want to offer some of my photographs as note cards in my shops, but I'd have to offer a limited number of designs at first. Help me! Which of my photos would you want to see as note cards?
- Sleeeeeepyzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Ok, so here's the obligatory, "I'm only doin' it for the BloPoMo," post. Look, I don't intend to miss a day this month, but this stuff is rough for someone whose blog presence is normally sporadic - usually I post once a month, once a week at most. I'm not used to thinking this much, and it hurts, and what's that smell? Oh, hey, my brain's on fire.
In the meantime, here's a list of my recently-starred entries from Google Reader:
Cadbury kittez - lulz.
Monster Factory @ Cutable - I'm a sucker for strange plushies.
Unexpected Guests @ sfgirlbybay - I want to hire her to decorate my house.
Ffffound! - never lacking for visual inspiration.
Kapow Jewelry @ Indie Fixx - love love love, and I don't even wear jewelry!
Feelin' foxy @ Modish - a nice diversion from the birds/deer motif.
Petit Four @ Little Splurge - allow me an ultra-girly moment to say, I heart lip gloss!

It's the kind of gray November day that's best for chili (Tim fired up the Crock-Pot) and a good book. Mmm, yes, it's been an excellent day, and it's always good news when there's the rest of a long weekend still ahead.
The obligatory crazy cat lady update: Pippen is quite at home with us. His favorite place is curled up on my shoulder, with his butt tucked snugly under my chin (he makes a nice scarf!) and he purrs on demand. We're smitten with our kitten!
The girls still aren't impressed with him, but they're friendly with us, so I think they'll adjust in good time. We've had help from treats, lots and lots of treats. I'm pretty sure Nala and Stitch would have suffocated us in our sleep already if it hadn't been for their lack of opposable thumbs and being unable to open the treat jar.
Also: I found plugins for WordPress that allow me to cross-post to my Livejournal AND Myspace blogs in addition to Vox! No man, woman, or child will be free from my incessant rambling. Is there anything WordPress can't do? Does anyone know of a good plugin that will mop my floors?
(There are four more 5x7 prints up for grabs! See here if you missed yesterday's blog.)
I've been focused so much on posting and participating in online communities that I haven't had much time to read my blog roll or do any commenting recently. Being that half the blogging community is partaking in NaBloPoMo, there's a LOT to catch up on. I logged on to Google Reader to find upwards of 1k unread blog posts waiting for me. Admittedly, 700 of those were photos from Flickr contacts, but still! People! I can't keep up!
So if you get a comment from me on a post that you wrote six days ago that has absolutely no relevance now, I apologize. In blog-time, it's still last Tuesday.
Speaking of slow things, did I mention that I have a laptop now? It's a little iBook, a retired veteran of the Maine Laptop Initiative program. It has an 800 Mhz processor and a whopping 128 Mb of RAM. It took me fifteen minutes to type this paragraph because the cursor can't catch up to my typing. That's how slow it is. I type a sentence, then wait five minutes. It's an exercise in patience. An agonizingly slow exercise. And I'm going to need to stop using big words like "agonizingly", because the computer almost choked on that one.
My iMac is much more "with it", as they say, but it's so nice to have a laptop when I just want to curl up in my chair and surf the Web from the living room.
Currently I'm enjoying:
ArtAndGhosts - surreal art and prints
Beehive Kitchenware on Cutable
New art prints at The Shiny Squirrel
The new Indie Fixx Shop
I blame lolcats for the new kitten
... and about a thousand other blogs in my catching-up travels that are so very slow, because it takes ten minutes to load Google Reader. But whatever.
Also, a huge thank you to Kerryanne of solobooks.etsy.com for the blog feature last weekend!
There would totally be kitten pictures here right now, except we're visiting my parents, and Tim forgot the camera cable. So instead of white fluffy kitten happiness, you get a Warhol-esque portrait of yours truly, courtesy of Photobooth. I know, I know, it's a rather poor substitute, but thankfully you get to hear from lil ol' me every single day this month. Surely this means kitten pictures can wait until tomorrow, no?
